VA launches new acquisitions internship program
The Department of Veterans Affairs said it launched a new internship program designed to move newly returning vets directly into federal acquisition positions.
The three-year internship program to prepare recently returned vets for careers as federal contracting specialists debuted recently at the department’s Acquisitions Academy in Frederick, Md., VA said. The department opened the academy in 2008.
The “Warriors to Workforce” program includes leadership courses, technical acquisition training and on-the-job experience, and provides participants with a requisite 24 educational credits in business. Successful graduates will have obtained the training to qualify for a federal acquisitions certification in contracting.
According to the department, graduates will be eligible for GS-11 contract specialist positions. Twenty-three vets are enrolled in the inaugural class, VA said.
