Civil War battles in Virginia
Virginia had more than a 100 (maybe more than 200) battles. It was the home to a high number of Civil War battles because of its geographical location. The commonwealth was located between the North and South (Union and Confederacy) forces; therefore it became an easy battle area. The first battle of the Civil War, the battle of Bull Run, was fought in Virginia on 21 July 1861. Virginia had seceded from the Union later than most states, mainly because there were a lot of debating. Virginia (or rather the confederacy) was home to a lot of famous generals such as Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and Robert E. Lee.
